Body: Light
Aging: Stainless steel
Finish: DrySILVER MEDAL
2012 Maryland Governor's Cup CompetitionVineyards & winemaking: Dry Rose - the newest member of our Landmark line - is drawn from South Mountain Vineyard where we principally grow our red wine varieties. It is the outcome of a technique used in the red wine process called saignee (bleeding) where a percentage of grape juice is drained from the fermenter after brief contact with the skins. This gives us both a more concentrated red wine (by decreading the ratio of juice to skin in the fermenter) while at the same time producing a fine rose from the free run juice that is drawn off and fermented separately like a white wine. The 2011 vintage contains 48% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Syrah, and 8% Petit Verdot. It's ready to drink now through late spring of 2013. Limited production of 343 cases.
Suggested foods: hors d'oeuvres, grilled wild salmon, rotisserie chicken, pulled pork barbeque.
Winery price: Sold out at the winery. Dry Rose 2012 will be released in March 2013.

Body: Light
Aging: French oak
Finish: DryVineyards & winemaking: A new release for Boordy, South Mountain Red is grown in our vineyards located on the rocky southeastern slope of South Mountain, which forms part of the Blue Ridge that bisects Maryland west of Frederick. The same grapes that yield our Reserve reds in sunny years produce this lovely, fresh country red in cooler seasons when the grapes are harvested at lower sugar levels. The aroma is distinctive, with notes of black currant, cedar and clove. On the palate the weight and finish of South Mountain Red most closely resemble that of a pinot noir. 100% Maryland grown. GOLD MEDAL & BEST RED BLEND
Maryland Governor's Cup Competition 2012Vineyards & winemaking: The 2010 vintage ranks as one of the finest in the history of the mid-Atlantic region, with seasons following a perfect script: a mild spring with just enough rain and no damaging frosts, plenty of sunshine during the summer, and a leisurely dry fall. These conditions favored full ripening of the four grape varieties that make up Boordy’s 2010 Landmark Reserve: 69% merlot, 19% syrah, 6% cabernet sauvignon and 6% petit verdot. Each lot of grapes is hand harvested, painstakingly sorted at the crush pad, fermented individually, and then blended from the best barrels. We use the Reserve designation sparingly at Boordy, so when it appears it signifies a wine worth seeking out. Cellaring is recommended for up to 10 years from the vintage date. Limited production: 387 cases.
Suggested foods: Beef Wellington, braised veal shank with mushrooms, pasta and morels, foie gras, coq au vin, firm mellow cheeses.
Winery Price: $35.00
